Abstract

ABSTRACT

Traditional herbal products are widely used by the public as alternative treatments because they are considered safer and more natural. However, several studies have shown that herbal products can be contaminated with heavy metals, potentially endangering human health. This study aims to analyze heavy metal contamination in traditional herbal products on the market.

This study used a descriptive analytical method with a laboratory test approach on several traditional herbal product samples. Heavy metal analysis was performed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) after the sample digestion process. The heavy metals analyzed included lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg), and arsenic (As).

The results showed that several traditional herbal product samples contained varying amounts of heavy metals. Most samples were below the maximum limits set by food safety standards, but some samples showed heavy metal levels approaching the maximum permissible limits.

The study's conclusions indicate that monitoring the quality of traditional herbal products is crucial to ensure safe consumption.

ABSTRAK

Produk herbal tradisional banyak digunakan oleh masyarakat sebagai alternatif pengobatan karena dianggap lebih aman dan alami. Namun, beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk herbal dapat terkontaminasi oleh logam berat yang berpotensi membahayakan kesehatan manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis cemaran logam berat pada produk herbal tradisional yang beredar di pasaran.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan uji laboratorium terhadap beberapa sampel produk herbal tradisional. Analisis logam berat dilakukan menggunakan metode Spektrofotometri Serapan Atom (SSA) setelah proses destruksi sampel. Logam berat yang dianalisis meliputi timbal (Pb), kadmium (Cd), merkuri (Hg), dan arsen (As).

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beberapa sampel produk herbal tradisional mengandung logam berat dalam jumlah yang berbeda-beda. Sebagian besar sampel masih berada di bawah batas maksimum yang ditetapkan oleh standar keamanan pangan, namun beberapa sampel menunjukkan kadar logam berat yang mendekati batas maksimum yang diizinkan.

Kesimpulan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengawasan terhadap kualitas produk herbal tradisional sangat penting untuk menjamin keamanan konsumsi masyarakat.
