ABSTRACT
Infectious diseases of the digestive system remain a major health problem, particularly in developing countries. Microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites are the primary causes of gastrointestinal infections. This study aims to analyze the role of microorganisms in causing infectious diseases of the digestive system and the factors influencing their transmission. This study used a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 100 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through laboratory examinations and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The results showed that bacteria were the most common cause of digestive infections, followed by viruses and parasites. Hygiene and sanitation factors were significantly associated with infection incidence (p < 0.05). In conclusion, microorganisms play a significant role in gastrointestinal infections, and prevention can be achieved through improved hygiene and sanitation.
